By Heather Wirtz December 13, 2011

Every year at Christmas time my grandmother makes this sweet treat.  If you are looking to serve something a bit different, this dessert is for you!  It is guaranteed to be a new favorite in your house!

Dough:
4 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup sugar
4 eggs
1/2 cup oil

Filling:
1 can chickpeas - drained
1 cup cocoa powder
1 cup sugar
1 cup chopped walnuts

Oil for frying

Directions:
1. Mix first 5 ingredients together to form a dough
2. In a separate bowl, combine filling ingredients
3. Heat pan with about 2 inches of oil (over medium heat)
4. Lightly flour work area and roll out dough.  Cut out into 4" round pieces
5. Fill 4" circle with 1-2 tsp of filing.  Fold in half and pinch sides (should look like a half moon) - repeat with remainder of dough/filling
6. Poke 2 or 3 small holes in the top of the half moon
7. Fry until golden brown on each side.  Place on paper towels to absorb extra oil
8. Serve warm
