When it comes to food, my philosophy is “Keep it simple.” The best time of the year to do this is summer - fresh summer flavors need very little enhancement.

Whether you’re making a quick weeknight meal or planning a weekend cookout, the first step is choosing seasonal produce. There is so much to pick from: red, ripe tomatoes; cucumbers fresh from the garden; sweet corn on the cob; versatile summer squash and zucchini; crispy green beans; tangy spinach and other fresh greens; and all those big, juicy berries. You really can’t go wrong.

SUMMER DINNER IDEAS
It’s easy to work fresh fruits and vegetables into family-friendly dinners. Try a simple one-plate meal: Salmon Summer Salad, Grilled Flank Steak with Portobello Mushrooms or Italian Chicken & Vegetable Kabobs. The burger is the ultimate summer food. Want to make sure your burger is packing as much flavor and juiciness as possible? These Hellmann’s® Super Moist Burgers With Creamy BBQ Sauce will have people begging for another barbecue invite.

Or use produce in side dishes, such as Grilled Summer Corn & Tomato Salad, Greek Roasted Tomato Salad or Tuscan Green Bean Salad.

Don’t forget fresh fruit desserts, including Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake and Fruit Salad Parfaits.

SUMMER ENTERTAINING IDEAS
For summer parties and barbecues, I like to make a variety of salads ahead of time. This frees me up to spend more time relaxing and enjoying the party. I mix some classic side dishes, such as Original Potato Salad or Mediterranean Tomatoes & Mozzarella, with dishes that have an interesting twist or ethnic flavors, such as Creamy Citrus Berry Jicama Salad.
