Cocoa-Cayenne Burgers

A spiced up version of a BBQ staple!

Burgers are a go to staple during BBQ season and loved by all. This recipe takes an everyday burger and turns it into a gourmet treat by adding just a few simple ingredients. Cocoa might not be the first thing you consider adding to ground beef, but give it a try...it is guaranteed to be a new favorite!

Ingredients:

12 burgers
Your favorite cheese, we used sharp cheddar
 
Chocolate Rub:
2 Tbsp Kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp chili powder
1/8 tsp Cayenne pepper
1 Tbsp sugar
3 Tbsp cocoa powder

For sauce:
1 Tbsp cornstarch 

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients for rub in a small mixing bowl and mix well. 
  2. Coat each burger generously on both sides.  
  3. Let sit for 10 minutes before grilling.
  4. Grill as you would regular burgers. 
Sauce
  1. Add remaining rub mixture and 2 cups of beef broth in a small sauce pan. Set heat to med-high.
  2. Dissolve 1 Tbsp of cornstarch in 1/4 cup cold water and add to sauce pan, mix well.
  3. Bring mixture to a boil for 1 minute, stir often. Remove from heat. Serve over burgers.
