Burgers are a go to staple during BBQ season and loved by all. This recipe takes an everyday burger and turns it into a gourmet treat by adding just a few simple ingredients. Cocoa might not be the first thing you consider adding to ground beef, but give it a try...it is guaranteed to be a new favorite!
Ingredients:
12 burgers
Your favorite cheese, we used sharp cheddar
Chocolate Rub:
2 Tbsp Kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp chili powder
1/8 tsp Cayenne pepper
1 Tbsp sugar
3 Tbsp cocoa powder
For sauce:
1 Tbsp cornstarch
Directions
- Combine all ingredients for rub in a small mixing bowl and mix well.

- Coat each burger generously on both sides.

- Let sit for 10 minutes before grilling.
- Grill as you would regular burgers.
Sauce
- Add remaining rub mixture and 2 cups of beef broth in a small sauce pan. Set heat to med-high.
- Dissolve 1 Tbsp of cornstarch in 1/4 cup cold water and add to sauce pan, mix well.
- Bring mixture to a boil for 1 minute, stir often. Remove from heat. Serve over burgers.
