Baked Apples

A great side dish or dessert!

By Heather Wirtz September 24, 2013
Baked apples are great served as a side with a meal, such as roasted pork or chicken and baked ham. They also make a great dessert served warm with ice cream and caramel sauce.

You will need:
4 apples, we used Gala
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
2 tbsp butter
cinnamon

Tools:
Apple peeler
Small scoop, spoon or apple corer
Baking dish

Directions:
  1. Combine brown sugar and vanilla in a small bowl and stir until combined. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  3. Peel skin around the top of each apple and then core or scoop out the seeds without puncturing the bottom. Place apples in a baking dish.
  4. Fill each apple with the brown sugar mixture and top with butter.
  5. Fill pan with enough water to just cover the bottom and cover tightly with foil.
  6. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until apples are fork tender.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  8. Serve warm with dinner or as dessert!
