Celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday on March 2nd with these fun cupcakes! My kiddos LOVE anything Dr. Seuss and a few years ago, two of them had a Dr. Seuss themed birthday party. Here are the cupcakes I created for their celebration and directions on how to re-create them.
You will need:
Cupcakes - your favorite recipe or a box mix will do!
White Icing/Frosting - here is a recipe
Food Coloring for Icing (blue & green)
Red Candy Melts
Marshmallows
Small Paint Brush
Optional:
Red Cupcake Wrappers (for Thing 1 & 2 cupcakes)
Piping Bags
Decorating Tips - Wilton #233 (for Thing 1 & 2), Wilton #12 and Wilton #1M
Cat in the Hat Cupcakes:
1. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Melt red candy melts according to directions on package.
3. Dip the top of a marshmallow in the melted candy, place on parchment paper to dry (un-dipped side down) - repeat until you have the desired amount.
4. Once the first section is dry, use paint brush and make a red stripe in the middle of the marshmallow.
5. Dip the bottom part of the marshmallow into the melted candy, place on parchment paper to dry (dry-side down).
6. Spread cupcakes with blue icing or use a piping bag (I used a #12 round tip).
7. With white icing, make a circle in the center of the cupcakes - the circle should be a little bigger than your marshmallow.
8. Place marshmallow in the center of the white circle.
Thing 1 & 2 Cupcakes:
1. Print and cut out Thing 1 & 2 circles (I made mine in Word). Attach to cupcake wrappers (after cupcakes are baked/cooled).
2. Fill piping bag with blue icing. You will need tip #233 for the "hair". Pipe icing all over so that it looks like Thing 1 & 2 hair.
Green Eggs (and Ham) Cupcakes:
1. Spread cupcakes with green icing or use a piping bag (I used a #1M star tip).
2. With white icing, make an oval/egg shape in the center of the cupcakes.
3. Pipe a green dot (tip #12) or use a green chocolate candy as the "egg yolk".
