Spiked Brown Sugar Apples

By Heather Wirtz September 23, 2014
These sweet apples can be served so many different ways! The apples are perfect for breakfast over oatmeal, waffles, pancakes or french toast and the sauce is a great substitute for maple syrup. They make a tasty side for pork roast or pork chops. And don't forget dessert! Serve warm apples over ice cream, pound cake or just eat them as is!

Spiked Brown Sugar Apples

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 4 large apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup hard cider*
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Once butter is melted, add sliced apples.
2. Saute until apples are almost tender, stirring often - about 5 minutes.
3. Add cider, brown sugar and cinnamon to the apples and stir until well combined.
4. Simmer over medium-low heat for about 5 additional minutes, stirring often. Liquid should thicken slightly.
5. Remove from heat. Apples can be served hot, warm or cold depending on preference.

*You can use traditional apple cider or apple juice in place of hard cider.
