Cocoa-Cayenne Burgers

A spiced up version of a BBQ staple!

Looking for something different to make for dad on Father's Day? This recipe takes an everyday burger and turns it into a gourmet treat by adding just a few simple ingredients. Cocoa might not be the first thing you consider adding to ground beef, but give it a try...it is guaranteed to be a new favorite!

Ingredients:
12 fresh burgers, homemade or store-bought 
Your favorite cheese, we used sharp cheddar
 
Chocolate Rub:
2 tbsp Kosher salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp chili powder
1/8 tsp Cayenne pepper
1 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp cocoa powder

For sauce:
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp cornstarch 

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients for rub in a small mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Coat each burger generously on both sides - set aside remaining rub mixture.  
  3. Let sit for 10 minutes before grilling.
  4. Grill as you would regular burgers. 
Sauce
  1. Add remaining rub mixture and 2 cups of beef broth in a small sauce pan. Set heat to med-high.
  2. Dissolve 1 tbsp of cornstarch in 1/4 cup cold water and add to sauce pan, mix well.
  3. Bring mixture to a boil for 1 minute, stir often. Remove from heat. Serve over burgers.
