Nine Things to do with Leftover Candy Canes

By Heather Wirtz December 19, 2017

Each year it seems like choices of candy canes multiply. There are so many different colors, flavors and sizes at every turn - and because we see them everywhere, my kids always want to try new ones. This typically leaves an excess number of candy canes by the time Christmas is over. Plus, once the holiday passes, you can usually find candy canes super cheap!

Here are 9 ways you can use up all those extra candy canes - these ideas will work with traditional mint or fruity flavors:

1. Use a whole candy cane as a stirrer for hot chocolate or coffee, this will create a minty or fruity flavor.

2. Mix crushed candy canes onto ice cream or a milkshake.

3. Fold crushed candy canes into brownie mix, cookie dough or meringue before baking.

4. Use as a garnish for chocolate dipped marshmallows or spoons.

5. Stir crushed candy canes into chocolate or buttercream icing for a minty or fruity crunch on your cake/cupcakes.

6. Chocolate peppermint trifle - layer chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, whipped topping and crushed candy canes.

7. Sugar Cookie Bark.

8. Infused vodka (adults only treat).

9. Did you know that two candy canes form a heart!? This makes them perfect to save for Valentine's Day too!
